Radio tings

Got a couple of treats selected from the shows from the last few days, we have DM doing his normal J-Tek bizniz (check the Strangerollers remix of Lucas - Reign towards the end, its going to be huge!). If that wasn't enough, we've got Runnin Man guesting on Kidsons weekly show, its been too long since Dan has done a set for us, well worth checking out.

Digitally Mashed - Top Draw Digital Show (Jungle Techno) Download

Kidson and special guest Runnin' Man (Nu-rave, Breaks, Jungle Techno) Download

Paradise Circus

So the first tune to do the rounds off the new Massive Attack album is wicked, I think Heligoland is my favourite album from them since Blue Lines. The tune, Paradise Circus has amazing vocals by Hope Sandoval, and if you've not heard it you should look it up. But I'm here to talk about remixes today..

First up, Gui Boratto continuing to demonstrate why he's such a force in the techno world at the moment, i.e. impeccably classy and understated remixes of great tunes:

Next up is a dubstep/breaks crossover refix courtesy of Breakage, continuing the trend for more bass-heavy breaks (or breakbeat influenced dub, depending on your view!) this one is lush, can see this getting a lot of play in dubstep sets (ala Skreams' La Roux remix)
this one has been made available a freebie (and legal) 320k mp3, so you've got no excuse not to grab it.  Download

Last weekends radio

So its monday, which is always a shame. However to keep your head nodding all week we've got choice selections from the weekends radio sets..

DJ Dogface, a regular in the chat mixed a set of doggy-style oldskool classics and more modern future-classics throughout the worlds of old skool, nu-rave and dnb. Dogface has been around for a while, but only recently started on radio, though if he carries on like this were all in for a treat. Download

Doing the saturday night warm-up (and also a pretty good Pete Tong impression with it) is Ted Cooper. Ted splits his time between nu-rave.com radio and Slinky.FM, his nu-rave.com sets are an eclectic selection from the annals of house, with some fresh techno and a far amount of anything else chucked it. Always worth a listen on a saturday night, wether your getting ready to go out, or recovering from friday night. Download

As a special guest on sunday, Kidson lined up Mikey Dubz, of the different drums crew. The DD family have made a name in the south east as a top dnb firm, focussing on the more liquid and soulful end of the spectrum, and whenever Mikey has been on nu-rave.com its been a banger. Download

Finally, its my weekly effort - The Different Sessions, where I split the show between dark, basement style techno/jungle and more cheerful breaks/nu-rave, with a weekly selection of the freshest cuts from the shop.  If you like your mixing sloppy and your banter inane, give it a listen ;) Download

Hardcore Lives

So after a weekend of the usual quality output from the nu-rave radio dj's (check the next update for the links), I thought i'd share some of the vast quantity of free tunes available on www.hardcorelives.co.uk. The gents over at HCL are stalwarts of the scene, with a label that consistently releases some of the better bits around, and a great community in the forums. To top it all they have a huge amount of random freebies, mixes and cheeky bootlegs for your listening pleasure, a very small selection of which you can find below.

First up we have a cheeky reworking of classic mid 90s trancer Binary Finary, originally by 1998. This has got a nice wobbly bassline/speedgarage vibe to it courtesy of the Warp Brothers.
 Download (320k mp3)

In a simmilar bootleg vein, heres DJ Nee's mix of oldskool classic 4AM, this one has a lot more of the vocal, combined with some pianos that give this a very euphoric vibe. Download (320k mp3)

Finally we have a couple of fantastic releases from one of the most prolific producers currently knocking out nu-rave/oldskool influenced breaks in the shape of RichieK, who under his own name, plus Strange Rollers/Agent Strange and Range Rollers (when collaborating to make more house styled stuff) continues to impress.

First up is the Affordable Breaks EP, I'd advise checking out Spacecrafts and Gangster Breaks.
Download (320k mp3)

Second is the Far Out EP, this is only two tracks but those two more than make up for it, with a collab. with Lt Wharf and one of my favourite tunes I've heard over the last twelve months U Got 2, which is a slice of uplifting and foot-stomping bizniz.

Welcome to the Nu-Rave.com blog!

Hello planet earth..

This is the inaugural post on the nu-rave.com blog, where you can keep up to date with all thats new and interesting in the nu-rave/rave breaks/jungle techno/etc scenes.. Though, personally, I hate genre's - I think if it makes me wanna smile and dance like an idiot its rave music, end of argument!

To kick things off, we've got a selection of some of the prime cuts from our radio archives. The radio streams live shows six days a week, with archives playing the rest of the time. For a full list of upcoming shows click here

First up we've got Digitally Mashed of Top Drawer Digital, his shows are always worth checking out with some of the freshest dubs and exclusives from the J-Tek/Jungle Techno scene, check out his most recent set here.

Second up is another brilliant show, this time representing the more ravey, (but no less banging) end of things, its the Definition:Hardcore show, which is presented by RichieK, Eddie Voyager, DJ Pete and John Grief (on a weekly rotation). This set is the most recent, presented on this occasion by DJ Pete.

And last but not least we have Jamie Rotten. Jamie has been setting the scene alight with his release on Rave Style'e (check the tunes out here), and his shows are always a good bet, showcasing some of the most 'avin it release over the past fifteen-odd years of rave music, check out his latest set here.

So this brings the first post to a close, in the future you can expect interviews with various movers and ravers in the scene, plus charts and features from special guests.

Much love, and take it easy

Pi
